“When you think of almost every health care crisis that has existed in our city that St. Vincent’s has responded to, then I say St. Vincent’s not being here is a big loss to our city.” Sister Jan Ianucelli, S.C.

When St. Vincent’s closed, a New Yorker named Patty stated the obvious on a public message board.

St. Vincent’s hospital was there for the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, the Titanic, September 11th, the AIDS crisis, and also the countless life-or-death moments occurring regularly in a big city. However, amidst what, ahem, seems to have been financial mis/mal/non-feasance, the board voted to file for Chapter 11, after which St. Vincent’s was sold to The Rudin Group and developed into an apartment complex, proving we know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Requiem for St. Vincent’s

Herewith, a public service announcement from our yet-to-be-determined future: If any member of the family should die whilst in the shelter from contamination, put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes. Mine is the last voice that you will ever hear. Do not be alarmed.

The above slideshow is what we might look like under Mother Nature’s microscope — and make no mistake: this is what humanity could be reduced to, depending on what we do next. Simply put, this could still be the logical conclusion of irresponsible behavior in the time of plague. It was created with the intent to dismantle the complacency some might have, even when seeing such scenarios befalling others. Stay safe and considerate of others.
