R.I.P. Neil Peart: Read 4 chapters from Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road, his road-trip memoir of an existential sabbatical, after great loss.
Seems apropos to this man’s life, to just read him in his own words…

Here’s the statement from his bandmates at RUSH.com

It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family’s need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time. Those wishing to express their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity of their choice and make a donation in Neil Peart’s name. Rest in peace brother. Last year, the folks at RHINO put out some worthwhile live releases: Rush In Rio, Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland, Clockwork Angels Tour chronicle an interesting time in the history of a band for whom practice made perfect, and experimentation made it all an adventure. Their live shows were epic celebrations with a devoted — indeed, reverential — global fandom, in whose album collections Rush occupied an unrivaled, singular place. I’ve been listening to tunes and shows on youtube, and reading the comments coming in. Personal trivia: “Tom Sawyer” was the first song I ever heard on a SONY Walkman, and it used to amp me up on the bus before debate tournaments.
Excerpts from “Tom Sawyer”. Lyrics by Pye Dubois and Neil Peart.
